Innovation + Education

A digital media “learning laboratory”, RFK-LA supplements the traditional classroom experience of teachers and students by providing 21st Century education programs.

Partnership + Collaboration

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope..."Robert F. Kennedy

~Our Work~

Leading-edge Partners

We work with a rapidly expanding team of collaborators, including our lead academic partners the University of Southern California Annenberg School's Media Innovation Lab, as well as the Los Angeles Unified School District and the RFK Community Schools.

With our partners, we introduce RFK-LA participants to a new language of learning. Instructors improve their teaching skills by studying how to use the latest media technologies. Students explore how to use digital media to enhance self-expression and foster critical thinking with a focus on social justice curriculum and civic engagement.

Next Generation Tools

RFK-LA's "think and do" media lab, in the heart of the LAUSD RFK Community Schools' campus, is an independent innovation space and test-bed for new media and performance based participatory learning models for professional teacher training and student after-school programs.

We provide advanced learning opportunities in after-school-programs for interested students from a population of 4,500 at the six, k-12 RFK Community Schools, and for dedicated teachers from throughout the Los Angeles School District.

Moving Forward

We are creating a digital archive to house the social justice works of Robert F. Kennedy and of other great civil rights leaders.

As the RFK-LA website evolves into a new media learning portal we will provide web-based educational programs focused on human rights issues to a global community of young people.
Robert F. Kennedy

"It is not enough to understand, or to see clearly. The future will be shaped in the arena of human activity, by those willing to commit their minds and their bodies to the task."

Inspired by the social justice values of Robert F. Kennedy, RFK-LA (Legacy in Action) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to fostering a more just society by training young people to use new media for social action.

RFK-LA was created to affirm Robert F. Kennedy’s vision that young people, given the opportunity will take a positive and active role in in their local communities. By providing them with media literacy skills and new media tools, we give RFK-LA participants the ability to express their dreams and inspire them to become world citizens.

Give to RFK-LA

In the fall of 2010, RFK-LA and the Community schools opened on the former site of the Ambassador Hotel, where Senator Kennedy was assassinated in 1968. With our partners, RFK-LA is dedicated to transforming a great tragedy into a living tribute to Robert F. Kennedy and his social justice values.

"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why...I dream of things that never were and ask why not."
